Riverside Park was packed solid with people. Everyone was trying for a vantage point to see the battleship “Missouri.” The Missouri was the newest and grandest battleship in the Navy. Before representatives of nine Allied nations, the Japanese signed the official Instrument of Surrender, prepared by the War Department and approved by President Truman.
